Applying Passport in Hyderabad

Today we submitted the application for passport in Begumpet e-seva centre( Speed-Post). This speed post is just next to MMTS station Begumpet. I just want to share the experience in the entire process. The passport application forms can be downloaded from https://passport.gov.in/
Fill the application as per the instructions given in the same site.

Some additional inputs :
  • It requires One copy of the application form and 4 copies of personal particulars form.
  • If your present address is different from permanent address, in 2 of the personal particulars form, Entry no. 11 has to be filled with reference from the same locality as your present address, and in the rest 2 of the personal particular form, entry no. 11 should be filled with reference of 2 persons who are in the same locality of your permanent address. For eg: If you are a student and staying in the college hostel, the 2 references of your present address can be two of your professors, and your neighbours can be the reference at your permanent address.
  • Photocopies of your original certificates(Self-attested)- One copy each. [For safe-side you can carry more copies of the original certificates].
At this point of time all the e-seva centers have the facility of accepting the passport application forms. http://esevaonline.com/htmlpages/eseva_centres.htm has the information regarding all the e-seva centers in hyderabad. In this list, Greenlands, Khairtabad, GPO Abdis, are accepting the passport applications for sure. If you are submitting in the e-seva centers, it is better to call up and enquire about the procedures beforehand. Some of the questions can be:
  • Will you accept passport applications ? [if yes, then only proceed. :) ]
  • Will your Office work tomorrow ? (just for confirmation, hopefully all the days which are not public holidays, e-sevas centers work).
  • How many tokens will be given everyday ?
  • At what time the tokens will be given ?
  • At what time the process of accepting applications will start ?
  • Will you accept DD/Cash for the fee ?
The no. of applications accepted one day is limited by the no. of tokens. In begumpet, 125 tokens are given a day. Token will be given at 9.00AM, and the processing also starts immediately. The first 25 people will be allowed to go inside and wait for their no. to come. The next batch of people will be given a time slot, they have to report on that time (11.30AM).
In GPO, the no. of tokens given are just 20/day. Tokens will be given at 7.30AM. and you will be given a time slot and come at that time for submitting your application.
At Khairtabad it is 30 tokens per day. The tokens will be given from 8.00AM.

Note that the information about the no. of tokens and the time is not fixed. These can be changed at anytime. So, it is better to verify before you start. For getting a token we might need to stand in the queue (outside the premises of the speed-post !!! queue is formed in the road !!! ). So, we need to reach there around 5.30-6.00 to get a better position in the queue. (in between we were the first to reach today in Begumpet Speed post for the same purpose. We reached there at 5.30AM .. ya of course waited three and a half hours for getting the token).

The importance of the last question (reg. DD and cash) comes from our own experience. In Begumpet speed post they wont accept DDs (at this point of time, rules may change at any time !!! ). They just accept cash. No idea about the other centers. But came to know that there is a passport acceptance centre in Osmania, they will be accpeting only DDs.

Nowadays tatkal applications are not accepted in e-seva centers. For tatkal passport applications we need to go to the main passport office.

Documents to be produced (with self attested photo copy) :-
  • SSLC ( Xth) Certificate. -- (For Date of birth)
  • Voter's Id
  • College Id card
  • Residential Proof.
  • Bonafide certificate (from college)
  • Your degree certificate.
The processing at the passport office counter will take just 5 minutes. Thats all about todays passport submission experience !!! Hope this will help at least some one who is seeking info.
